Four years after two NDLEA officers were gruesomely murdered in Adamawa State by some drug peddlers a Federal High Court sitting in Yola has sentenced Eight Persons to serve prison terms of 40 years.
Judge Bilikisu Aliyu in her ruling sentenced each convict to 40 years on two-count charge after their confessional statements in which they took responsibility for the death of the NDLEA personnel.
She explained that each of them will serve 20 years imprisonment for each offence ranging from obstruction of NDLEA men on duty and conspiracy in killing two NDLEA officers while performing their constitutional obligation.
According to her, the judgment will serve as deterrent to other criminals in the state who engage in unwholesome activities
Speaking to reporters shortly after the court verdict, the state commander of NDLEA, Mr. Yakubu Kibo and head of its legal team Barrister Buhari Abdulahi, commended the judgment, saying that it will serve as a moral booster to the organisation.
Kibo added that four years after his men were gruesomely murdered, the perpetrators of the act were finally brought to book, noting that the NDLEA would not be deterred in their battle to rid the state of illicit drugs.
