A Minna Chief Magistrate Court has ordered the detection of five soldiers from the 102 GIDs Battalion Zuma Barracks Suleja for an alleged attempt to kidnap a prominent politician from the state whose identity has been protected by the police.
It was learnt that the incident occurred on 31st of October 2016 while the politician was travelling to Abuja on the Dikko – Suleja raod.
In the First Information Report (FIR) arraigning the suspects, the police listed one Omorua Chiso, Nkwa Collins, Phips Peter, Sanday John and Abdulrazaq Isa all of 102 GIDs Battallion Zuma Barracks Suleja to have conspired to commit the offense.
According the charge, the suspects conspired to kidnap one Isa Mohammed of Bida before they were arrested by detectives from Suleja Divisional police headquarters and that they confessed to committee the offence during interrogation.
However counsel to the accuse persons, Barrister John Agbu applied for their bail arguing that the offence was bailable and that they are presumed innocent until proven guilty by the court.
The prosecutor, Sgt Moses Mbaga objected to the bail application insisting that they would interfere with investigation if released on bail, adding that investigation into the matter has not been completed.
In his ruling the presiding Chief Magistrate, Mohammed Gimba Gadi ordered the defence counsel to apply for the bail through written application and for the police to respond in like manner.
He ordered the suspect to be remanded in prison custody while adjourning the case to December 5th 2016 for further mention.
