A Federal House of Representatives contender in Ikom Boki Federal Constituency, Cross River State, Cletus Obun, has called on the Federal Government to be as interested in the separatist agitation going on in Ambazonia Republic, which is still part of Cameroun, as much as the United States of America is interested Ukraine.
Obun, who is a former Director-General (DG) of the Department of State Services (DSS), made the call on Wednesday 11th May 2022 at the International Conference Center after submitting his expression of interest and nomination form to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He said the President Muhammadu Buhari showed similar interest in Bakassi Peninsular when he was military head of state in 1985 to keep the area in Nigeria.
Obun promised to bring federal present to his constituency if elected to represent it.
His words: “I am running for the Boki Federal Constituency seat in Cross River State. I have a groundswell of activities for our people. The first thing to do is to put my people on the national map and putting them on the national map means ensuring that everything that Nigeria and Nigerians have by being Nigerians get to the communities where I serve.
“We also share borders with the Cameroun, which means that most of the political activities in western Cameroun affect us, especially the present Ambazonia struggle for liberation. It affects our people because we share a lot of historical and cultural affinities. Because of that a lot of refugees are resident in our area.
“Nigeria should be interested in what is happening in Ambazonia. If America is interested in what is happening in Ukraine, why shouldn’t we be interested in Ambazonia?”
