Comptroller General, Nigerian Customs, Col. Ahmed Ali (Rtd) has again said he would not think twice to try and jail any Customs officer caught collecting bribe of all type.
Ali, who spoke in Yola, Adamawa State during a tour of Customs formations in the state, observed that “corruption is a two-way thing that; there must be a giver and a receiver,” stressing that the penalty of corruption goes to both the giver and the taker and he would make sure he enforced the law on any one found culpable.
His words: “I want to assure you that we are in the era of change. You all know the kind of president we have, I am reminding you that any officer found collecting bribe will be jailed including the one who gave it. We are not going to dismiss the person, but we will make sure it is properly dealt with.”
Ahmed reminded the custom officers that their work as a revenue-generation arm of the Federal Government required all sense of integrity, honesty and sincerity.
Also, he told a group of stakeholders who are into different Customs-related businesses in Adamawa that they have a duty to protect the organisation by doing clean businesses to help government in generating much-needed revenue to make up for the fall in oil price at the international market.
