Cut Tree, Go to Jail, Sani-Bello Warns Niger Residents

Governor Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger state has warned that the law banning the felling of trees is still in force in the state and therefore anyone arrested would be sentenced to 5 years imprisonment or fine of N500,000 and to plant 30 trees.
He reiterated this at Mashegu local government during a mid-term inspection tour of the 25 councils areas of the state.
The governor warned that his administration would no longer accept indiscriminate cutting of trees in the state to avoid desertification.
He also emphasized that any local government chairman found to be hard working and prudent in the management of resources would be rewarded accordingly and commended that of Mashegu for his achievements thus far despite limited resources available.
Governor Bello pledged to establish a general hospital in the local government at a strategy area accessible to majority of the people in the locality.
He urged the people to be securities conscious and report any strange movement to the security agency or authority.
In what looks like early start of the journey towards 2019, the governor promised to upgrade some of the junior secondary schools in the area to Senior secondary schools .
Construction of some feeder roads in the local government will be given priority attention, Governor Bello further assured the people to ease their transportation problems.
Also at Mokwa Local Government, the governor directed that an additional 7.5 MVA to the existing one so as to curb the problem of power supply in the community and donated N10 million for the construction of their Juma’at mosque as pleaded.
He used the opportunity to visit Government Secondary School Mokwa where he expressed sadness over the quality and quantity of food given to the students, adding that the management of the school has failed in its responsibility and directed an immediate assessment and renovation of the college.
the Emir of Borgu (Mai Borgu) Alhaji Muhammad Sani Kintoro IV, while appreciating the state governor for the visit and getting first-hand information about the problems facing the people so as to proffers solutions to them, however decried inadequate water supply in New Bussa and environs despite hosting a hydro dam.
He informed the governor about the 10-kilometre road abandoned by the last administration and pleaded for its completion to ease their transportation as provision of dividend of democracy.
Governor Sani Bello directed the commissioner of works to immediately ascertain the contractors handling the 10 km projects, level of work and its payments so as to take action on them. He announced the release of N43 million to replace water pipelines to ease water supply in the area.
