Team Psychologist of the Nigerian Flying Eagles which in Saudi ’89 pulled off what has gone down in world football lore as “The Dammam Miracles” – by coming from 0-4 down to beat the Union of Soviet and Socialist Republic (USSR) – Professor Seun Omotayo, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for decoupling sports development from youth affairs and creating two separate ministries out of these strategic national sectors.

Prof. Omotayo issued the commendation in a reaction to the President’s allotment of portfolios to ministers, which news broke on Wednesday 16 August, 2023.

Prof. Omotayo, who is President, Africa Sports Management Association and ECOWAS Lead Resource Consultant on Youth and Sports Policy Development, lauded President Tinubu for the new initiative, saying “it is the right step and the way to go”.

Prof. Omotayo stated:   “I am very happy with the President’s decoupling of Youth from Sports. It is the right step and the way to go as Sports is now a stand-alone Ministry and Youth matters brought to the front burner under a separate Ministry. This would promote Sustainable Sports Development (SSD) and get trained Sports Management professionals to manage sports along global best practices.”

He congratulated the new Minister of Sports, Hon. John Eno, and wished “him a most successful tenure.”

Prof. Omotayo, who represents Africa on the Executive Board of World Association for Sports Management, urged all Sports Management professionals to support the new minister to succeed.
