The Dangote Petroleum Refinery, Africa’s largest oil refinery, has announced the commencement of nationwide distribution of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and diesel starting 15 August, 2025. The initiative, described as a transformative step for Nigeria’s energy sector, aims to enhance fuel accessibility and affordability across the country, aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

In a press statement released on Sunday 15 June, 2025 the refinery outlined its ambitious plan to serve marketers, petrol dealers, manufacturers, telecom firms, aviation companies and other large-scale fuel users.

“Dangote Petroleum Refinery is pleased to announce the commencement of a significant national initiative designed to transform Nigeria’s fuel distribution landscape,” the statement read. “Effective 15th of August 2025, the refinery will begin the distribution of Premium Motor Spirit and diesel to marketers, petrol dealers, manufacturers, telecoms firms, aviation and other large users across the country, with free logistics to boost distribution network.”

To ensure seamless delivery, the refinery has invested in 4,000 brand-new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered tankers and over 100 CNG transport vehicles, alongside establishing CNG booster stations nationwide.

“This strategic programme is part of our broader commitment to eliminating logistics costs, enhancing energy efficiency, promoting sustainability and supporting Nigeria’s economic development,” the statement emphasised.

The initiative is expected to revive dormant petrol stations, create jobs, stimulate small and medium-sized enterprises, and improve fuel access in rural areas.

The refinery also introduced a credit facility for bulk buyers purchasing a minimum of 500,000 litres, allowing an additional 500,000 litres on credit for two weeks under a bank guarantee. “This pioneering effort marks a major milestone in our vision to revolutionise Nigeria’s energy sector. Dangote Refinery is dedicated to ensuring that no place is left behind,” the statement added.

Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Group, highlighted the initiative’s alignment with economic reforms, crediting the Federal Government’s Naira-for-Crude scheme for stabilising fuel supply.

The refinery, with a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, is poised to meet Nigeria’s entire domestic fuel demand and export surplus products.

Stakeholders are invited to register for the programme from 16 June to 15 August, 2025, marking a new era in Nigeria’s downstream sector.
