Former Governor Mallam Isa Yuguda of Bauchi State has instituted a N10 billion suit before the Bauchi State High Court 9 against All Progressive Congress (APC) Chieftain, Alhaji Sani Shehu, for alleged defamatory utterances against his personality and his administration ‎.

Counsel to Yuguda, Barrister Okechukwu Nwaeze told journalists in Bauchi on Friday that the former Governor Isa Yuguda is seeking N10 billion damages in an action against Sani over his allegation that Isa Yuguda was corrupt and fraudulent during his tenure as the governor of Bauchi State‎.

Barrister Okechukwu said the APC chieftain made the reckless and defamatory public comments about Yuguda and his administration on two radio stations in the state – Ray Power and BRC.
The counsel alleged that Sani, who is the former ANPP chairman in the state accused Yuguda “of performing woefully, that the former governor rather engaged in excessive looting of public treasury, calling him names such election rigger and manipulator, all those statements tempered with the reputation and personality of the former Governor.
“It is not right to persecute people in the media. If the man is guilty of any fraud, the defendant should provide the proof or otherwise focus on his political activities.
“Our prayers are that the court should issue an order for the defendant to tender an apology in two national dailies and two online‎ papers. The defendant should also be banned from featuring on such a political programme in media houses and pay the sum of N10 billion naira damages to the plaintiff.”
Judge Muazu‎ Abubakar adjoined the case to October 6, 2015 for mention.
