Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, has explained why his administration resolved to celebrate Delta at 25.
The governor, represented by the Commissioner for Information and member of the anniversary committee, Hon. Patrick Ukah, stated this in Asaba at the press conference to flag off activities for the 25 anniversary of the creation of Delta state.
Governor Okowa noted that the celebration was to take stock of the journey so far, achievement recorded and plan better approaches towards the peaceful co-existence of the various ethnic groups in the state.
He said “It is with exceeding faith and commitment that I inform you of the resolve of this administration to deepen the development fundamentals of the state to make it primus inter pares among states in Nigeria.
The governor stressed that the idea for the Silver Jubilee celebration was also motivated by the need to review the development of the state from inception, examine achievements and explore the way forward for greater development
Governor Okowa, who went down memory lane, recalled with nostalgia the giant strides of the first Military Administrator of the state upon creation Group Captain Luke Chijuba Ochulor and others.
While paying glowing tributes to the courage, ebullience and doggedness of past leaders of this great state, the governor said: “As a state, created 25 years ego, our leaders and indeed, Deltans were full of high hopes, expectations and the determination to build a state of excellence.
“Twenty five years after, we have cause to celebrate our existence as a state, believing that there is sure but steady progression towards the upliftment of human dignity and socio-economic development”
He salute the state’s past leaders “for their invaluable contributions to the development of Delta state and the nation at large.”
Delta will mark 25 years of its creation on August 27, 2016.
