Delta State Commissioner for Information, Mr Patrick Ukah has said the appointment of three traditional rulers have been approved at an executive meeting which was presided by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.
The Commissioner stated this on Wednesday while briefing journalists in Asaba on the outcome of the 21st meeting of the Delta State Executive Council.
“Council approved the appointment of HRM Williams Oboro Gbaran II as the Pere of Gbaramatu Kingdom in Warri South West Local Government Area, the appointment of HRM Obi Okolo Obanye as the Obi of Onicha-Uku Kingdoom in Aniocha North local government area and the appointment of Obi Akaezue Gbemudu II as the Ogbelani of Illah Kingdom in Oshimili North local government area of Delta State,” he said,
He added that the state government also approved the distribution of branded waste bins at”a subsidized rates of N10, 000 only.”
While disclosing that the establishment of new schools were also approved during the meeting, Mr Ukah, reiterated that the approval of the new schools was to meet with the education needs of the people in the areas the schools are to be established.
Reacting to questions about officials of Delta State Traffic Management Agency (DESTMA) removing their name tags to enable them engage in illegal activities, Mr Ukah, emphasized that “any official of DESTMA who is seen without name tag should be seen as someone with sinister intentions. We thank you for bringing such to our notice and we will carry out investigations and apply necessary measures.”
The commissioner added: “It is important that I announce to you that salary of workers for the month of September will be paid in full. Our Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa is committed to the welfare of civil servants and we should applaud him because while some states take payment of civil servants salaries as achievement, Governor Okowa has paid salaries of workers up to date and he is also engaged in providing infrastructure and empowering the people
“From this briefing, we are moving to Amukpe where some Deltans are engaged in training programmes at the end of which they will be empowered to be employers of labour. Gentlemen, you should also let Deltans know that Exco has approved the contract for the construction of Issele-Uku/Onicha-Uku/Idumu-Ogo roads in Aniocha North local government area which is also known as the Aniocha North ring-road as it connects a lot of communities in the area.”
He noted disclosed that Exco has also approved the new logo which he said can also be called emblem or coat of arm as the brand identity of the state. The state anthem was also approved and would be rendered at ceremonies after the rendition of the National Anthem.
