The Member representing Ugheli South Constituency in Delta House of Assembly, Hon. Ben Izeze, was suspended over alleged misconduct in connection with a purported impeachment plot against the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Monday Igbuya.
Addressing journalists at the Assembly complex, Asaba, the Speaker, who disclosed this stated: “If you plan a coup and you fail, what do you expect? Of course punishment will come.”
Igbuya while explaining the achievement of the 6th Assembly, said it has passed 10 out of the 23 bills received while 33 motions were received and approved in one year in office.
The Speaker, who disclosed that the Assembly was conscious of the yearning of Deltans for quick delivery of the dividends of democracy, added that dwindling oil revenue has impacted negatively on the state economy.
He noted that in the light of great insecurity and challenges affecting local governments, the Assembly in its role of sanitizing the councils suspended the Chairman of Uvwie local government area.
While commending Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for his unwavering support for the Assembly and hard work, the Speaker stated that they would continue to offer their best representation.
His words, “We will continue to keep faith with our duties of law-making, representation and oversight function of the Executive arm of government. We will continue to insist on probity, accountability and efficient in the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the 2016”.
