From Ochei Matthew,Asaba
The National Association of Nigeria Prostitutes Delta state chapter has lamented the recent fuel price increase in the country, disclosing that its members would soon protest the development in Asaba.
One of the sex workers who gave her name as Sandra told The Dream Daily in Asaba that the Delta group has received signals from tits national leader to mobilise members for the protest to register their anger over the high cost of living occasioned by the increase in pump price of petrol.
Miss Sandra said that the group would soon embark on protest as their business has been dwindling because their customers do not have the money to patronize them and such they have been suffering untold hardship.
Speaking in pidgin English, She said: “Una when dey see and hear everything when dey happen in this country, make una go tell the President say people dey die, we no get job, the one wen we still dey manage no dey come again as before.
“Throughout this week, only one customer that patronised me. Even my colleagues are not happy and the way our customers price this is too bad. As fuel price has increased, we suppose to increase our price but we couldn’t do so because our customers cannot afford it and it is affecting us adversely.
My friend in Umunede came to Asaba as result of low patronage in that area, thinking Asaba will be viable yet she could not make ends meet in Asaba. The situation is bad enough that most of our customers don’t even come with their car any longer because of fuel hike. where are we going to in this country?” she asked.
Another sex worker who refused to give her name spoke in anger, saying that even as they “reduce their price from N250 to N150 to get patronage yet nothing is forthcoming.”
“To pay our rent is a serious challenges now because most of us pay weekly rent, foodstuff is no-go area, how can we survive this situation?” she complained
