The Delta State Commissioner for Water Resources, Sir Fidelis Okenmor Titlije, has said that government would soon undertaken quality test in all bolehole in Delta, saying after the test, certification would be issue to the owners bolehole.
The commissioner made the statement during a luncheon organised by Prof. Steve Agwo Okecha in honour of his appointment as commissioner for Water Resources in Obiaruku.
Titlije said: “We will soon put water law in place because the bolehole water is taken from underground and all the underground water are very extremely polluted, especially in the Niger Delta region. The contamination we are getting from bolehole is on the increase.
“After the law, our ministry through the quality control lab department will undertaken quality test in all bolehole in the state and issue certificate which is subject to review every year.”
Sir Titlije noted that under the SMART agenda of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, was meant to create a strong health base for Delta, saying “you cannot grow the economy well without health because water diseases are very dangerous”
On the honour done to him through the event, Titlije said: “For me being celebrated today by my people is not a news but it became news when somebody like Prof. Steve Okecha who does not play politics champions the celebration.”
In his welcome address, Prof. Okecha described Sir Titlije as a rising star in the politics of Ndokwa nation. According to him, “we are particularly proud of him as he is our illustrious son, and a dependable friend. We love his courage, vision and compassion. We appreciate, in no small measure, his respect for elders, and love for our people in general”
Chairman of the occasion, Rear Admiral Mike Onah, thanked Governor Okowa for appointing Sir Titlije a commissioner.
He described Governor Okowa as a man of prosperity who he said was ready to spread prosperity across the state.
