A former Emir of Borgu, Ishyaku Jikantoro, is dead. Jikantoro died at the Bay Specialist hospital in Minna at about 12.noon on Wednesday during a brief illness. He was aged 67 years.
A top family and emirate source told The Dream Daily that the deceased had battled with diabetics for “some time” before complication set in on Tuesday night leading to his being rushed to the hospital where ” he gave up the ghost “.
His remains were already being conveyed to New Bussa where it will be interred on Thursday according to the source.
He was married to one wife and blessed with seven children.
Late Ishyaku Jikantoro was enthroned in 2000 but late Senator Haliru Dantoro challenged the process leading to his appointment a case which ran up to the Supreme court where his selection was declared ” illegal null and void and of no effect”
Late Jikantoro was subsequently deposed and banished to Rijau resulting in the enthronement of Senator Haliru Dantoro as the new emir of Borgu in 2004.
However late Senator Haliru Dantoro was said to have opposed his banishment to Rijau with the deceased remaining a free man till his death.
The deceased was one of the delegates from Niger state to the National constitutional Conference in Abuja after which he was appointed a permanent commissioner in the Niger State Pilgrims Welfare Commission.
