Don’t Reject Corps Members, El-Rufai Tells Employers

As a 21-day orientation course for 2016 batch A (Stream I) Corps members deployed to various states of the federation by National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) ended, Kaduna State State Governor, Malam Nasir el-Rufai, has called on prospective corps employers not to reject any corps members posted to them.
In recent times, one of major challenges of corps members, many of whom are alien to their places of primary assignment, is outright rejection by their intended employers, including government establishments.
Declaring the orientation course closed in Kaduna on Friday, El-Rufai, who was represented by Director, NGO/NYSC, Ministry of Youths, Sports, Engr Jonah Gandu, assured corps members of conducive environment and their security in any part of the state.
He said, “all employers of corps labour in the state are encouraged to accept the corps members posted to them and make them comfortable.
“I want to assure you of your security. You are safe in any part of the state that you are posted to serve just as government will continue to recognise and reward those of you who perform excellently at the end of the service year.
“Let me also reiterate that Kaduna government will continue to give the scheme maximum support towards the attainment of its objectives.
He then urged corps members to take every opportunity that will come their way during the service year very seriously because the period is for them to add value to themselves.
“You must endeavour to utilize the opportunity which the NYSC has provided through the skills acquisition and entrepreneurial training, to improve your lives,” added the governor.
Coordinator, NYSC Kaduna State, Prince Mohammed Momoh, said in conformity with the age-long posting policy, 65% of corps members have been posted to serve in the rural areas where their services are needed most. This he added, would effectively position them to contribute to national development.
He told corps members to identify areas of needs in their respective host communities and mobilize them to overcome such challenges.
Momoh also urged them to key into Kaduna government’s developmental programme and contribute their quota in their effective implementation at the grassroots.
He thanked the state government, security agencies, corps employers and other organisations and individuals who have contributed to the success of the orientation exercise in the state.
