Uneasy calm now reigns in the Niger State Police Command following the kidnap of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Serkin Pawa Division of the Command, in Munya Local Government of the state, identified as Superintendent of Police(SP) Amos Aliyu.
It was gathered that that the victim is a graduate of Sociology of the Uthman Dan Fodio University Sokoto state and a Nupe from Pategi Local Government of Kwara state.
It was learnt that SP Aliyu’s kidnap by occurred at between 6pm-6:30pm on Sunday around his residence at Tudun Fulani area , in Bosso Local Government of the state.
Further checks revealed that prior to his abduction by yet unidentified persons the DPO, who is said to own a Peugeot 406 car pink colour was sighted outside his compound discussing with someone believed to be his friend in a relaxed atmosphere.
It was further learnt that when one of his neighbours saw him and asked him after his wife, he responded that his wife was yet to return from the Sunday Church service on the fateful Sunday morning .
An insider source informed our reporter yesterday in Minna that the abducted DPO usually visits his family in the state capital at two weeks intervals from his station in Serkin Pawa.
The reliable source who would not want his names in the print said prior to his recent transfer to Serki Pawa Division in the Niger state Police Command, he had served in various capacities as Deputy Commandant, Police Training School Minna, Divisional Crime Officer Kuta Division in Shiroro Local Government of the state and also in Taraba state Police Command among others.
The source added further that the Police Orderly attached to SP Amos Aliyu was also taken along with him while his wife (names withheld) was also said to have left home as early as possible on Monday morning in her Toyota Highlander Sports Utility vehicle in search of her husband. Attempts by neighbours to speak with her on her telephone was abortive as she was said to have switched off her telephone.
SP, Aliyu was said to have parked his car outside his simple self-contained rented apartment on Sunday in company with one of his friends , awaiting the arrival of his wife from the Church before the incident occurred.
“The DPO stays in Tudun Fulani area of Bosso Local Government of the state. He was seen in the evening on Sunday at about the time the Muslims were going to say their prayers in the Mosque. At the time, he parked his Peugeot 406 car outside his compound and he was greeted and he responded to the greetings as well as exchanged pleasantries with some of his neighbours who stopped to greet him while someone believed to be his friend sat beside him on the fateful Sunday evening prior to his disappearance,” the source noted .
A team of police detectives were sighted at the rented apartment of the missing DPO. Efforts made by this reporter to speak with the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Austin Iwero Agbonlahor over the incident were unsuccessful as he declined to speak on the matter.
