Education stakeholders in Niger state have commended the appointment of Prof. Abdulrasheed Bello as new Registrar/CEO of National Examination Council ( NECO) by the Federal Government.
The immediate past Commissioner for Education in the state, Abdulhameed Umar Danladi, expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah “for making it possible this time around to have a son of the soil as the Chief Executive of the examination body. For long we have being trying and praying to have somebody from Niger state or from the North to head NECO, now Allah has answered our prayers, so we thanked Him.”
Prof. Abdulrasheed Bello, who is the 4th Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of NECO, has since assumed office in Minna.
In an interview with The Dream Daily, Prof Bello assured that he would build on the legacies of his predecessor Prof. Monday Joshua Sunday, who spent 50 days as registrar.
The NECO chief added that he would operate an open-door policy with fairness to all and allowed freedom of association in NECO. He appealed to workers to give him maximum support, understanding and cooperation for the success of the body even as he promised to make staff welfare his topmost priority.
Prof. Bello further assured that he would do everything possible to maintain the credibility and mandate of NECO stressing that the era of maginalisation at the Council was over.
“My predecessor met a family NECO and brought harmony which I will build upon to take us to the next level,” he said.
Bello, who is a professor of guidance and counselling, was a special adviser to former Minister of Education, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau
