The Arewa community in Delta state had said only peace and love can bring about development in the state in respective of religious differences among the people.
South-South chairman of the Arewa Community, Barr. Mohammed Elunor, made the call on Wednesday in Asaba during the celebration of Sallah.
Elunor said: “I call on the people of Delta state and Nigeria in general to embrace peace and love one another in respective of religious differences. The Ramadan that just ended is the month the Quran was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (SAW). It is the holy month of sober reflection, purity and of charity as well as time of connecting with our Creator more than ever before.”
The chairman, who lamented bitterly over the killing of one their members on Tuesday night, called on the state government and the security agents to investigative the incessant killings of the group’s members in the state.
His words: “Government and the police should do everything possible to fish out the perpetrators. My prayer is that these killings, especially the one that happened last night, will not degenerate into rioting and killings because they (Muslim) are about to protest and match to Government House. Despite our celebration today, the Muslim community here is still agitating to know the cause of its member’s death.”
While urging the Arewa community to support the police in their investigation, Elunor noted that murder cases were serious matters that should be treated urgently.
He called on the police to be up and doing in handling issues relating to security of lives and property.
