A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje, has called on Nigerian Muslims to use the period of the Eid-el-Kabir festival to pray for the unity of the country.
He also harped on the need for cooperation among Nigerian leaders to move the nation forward.
Baraje urged Muslims to observe the festival as a moment of sober reflection and not as a carnival due to the spate of killings in the North Eastern part of the country and other security challenges facing the country.
The APC chieftain stated this in his Eid-el Kabir message to Nigerians. .
Baraje enjoined Nigerian leaders, particularly the political class to fulfil their electioneering campaign promises as demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim who offered his only son, Ismail, for sacrifice in fulfilment of his promise to Allah.
He enjoined political office holders to strive harder to halt the deepening culture of impunity that is giving the young people the wrong ideas of what leadership entails.
Baraje commended the efforts of the military and other security operatives in the battle against terrorism, particularly the Boko Haram sect in the North East and urged them not to relent until the sect is wiped out.
He wished Muslims a successful celebration and prayed for journey mercy back home for all pilgrims currently in the Holy land of Saudi Arabia.
