Emefiele: ‘Buhari, Nephew, Tunde Sabiu, Should Be In Handcuffs Facing Trial’

Former presidential aide and self-acclaimed “table-shaker”, Mr. Reno Omokri, has asked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to dock former President Muhammadu Buhari and his nephew, Tunde Sabiu Yusuf, for alleged corruption.

Omokri made the call via a post on his verified X handle on Wednesday, 14 February, 2024. The ex-presidential aide premised his call on a picture (see above) he posted with his message, which purportedly showed Sabiu wearing a designer wristwatch which Omokri alleged could only be a proceed of corruption as it reportedly retailed at about $99,000 (Over N100 million).

He then asked the Federal Government to charge Buhari and Sabiu to court for corruption, just as it is prosecuting former Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele.

Omokri’s post reads in full: “General Buhsri’s nephew, Tunde Sabiu Yusuf, was a recharge card seller in Daura in 2015. Please fact-check me. Yet, if you zoom in on this photo, you will observe that Sabiu is wearing a $99,000 Patek Phillipe Nautilus wristwatch. His total annual salary as PA to Buhari was less than $6,000. How could he afford such a watch when public servants are prohibited by law from accepting gifts beyond $250 and cannot run a private business while in office? Please fact-check me again: A Nigerian oil minister, Tam David West, was sacked and prosecuted for accepting a similar watch as a gift. Tunde Sabiu and his uncle Buhari should be in handcuffs facing trial. Godwin Emefiele should not be their scapegoat!”

In yet another X post on same day in which he alleged a conspiracy against Emefiele regarding the withdrawal of $6.2 million from the CBN purportedly on a forged signature, Omokri double down on his allegation of corruption against Buhari and Sabiu.

Omokri wrote: “How can Buhari and his SGF expect Nigerians to believe someone forged Buhari’s signature and withdrew $6.2 million from the Central Bank of Nigeria? It makes no sense.

” I was close to a President, and it is impossible for $6.2 million to be withdrawn from the treasury without both the President and the Finance Minister being aware of it. As of 2015, the President had a dashboard to see what entered and left the treasury in real-time. Remember, it was President Jonathan, not Buhari, who introduced the Treasury Single Account.

” It looks to me like some persons are trying to exonerate Buhari from his kleptocracy and use Godwin Emefiele as a scapegoat because he is from a minority ethnic nationality whose members are not considered a threat.  In my opinion, the persons who should be seated on that dock with handcuffs should be Muhamm  Buhari and his nephew, Tunde Sabiu Yusuf, who were the lynchpins of the criminal enterprise that misgoverned Nigeria for eight years. Apparently, Buhari learnt well from Abacha!”
