A retiree of the Nigerian Police from Adamawa State, Mr Wayas Wesley, has blamed Chairman, Police Service Commission, Mike Okiro, for allegedly not presenting the plight of police retirees before President Muhammadu Buhari when he secured audience with the President, recently.
Wesley, in a statement in Yola, said it was not fair for Okiro to only discussed the issue of recruitment of 10,000 policemen with the President ignoring the over 6,000 policemen who for more than a decade were still waiting for their gratuity.
“It is very unfortunate for Mr Okiro IGP (rtd) who is a retired police chief that knows the plight of police retirees over 6,000 of whom are yet to get their gratuity for the past 11 years talkless of monthly pension,” Wesley said.
He lamented that police retirees were undergoing serious hardship and something urgently needed to be done to help them.
Wesley pointed out that last month along four retirees died waiting for their gratuity in Adamawa.
