In a bid to contribute to the sensitization of the public to imbibe the culture of regular medical check-up, especially the eye, an organisation, Eye Plus Project, Abuja has embarked on public outreach treatment programme in Kaduna South Senatorial District.
Speaking during the flag-off of the exercise in Jema’a Local Government, the Acting chairman , Mr. Leo Shekari, applauded the initiative of the organization, stating that it will encourage the public to go for medical check-up regularly to reduce the risk of loss of sight.
He challenged the people to avail themselves of the opportunity of the sensitization treatment outreach offers and check the condition of their eyes
Dr Charles Amaghere, the chief executive officer of Eye Plus Project, who was represented by Dr. Oluchi Ugorji at the flag-off ceremony, said poor concern for regular medical check-up especially for the eye by Nigerians informed the decision to embark on the programme.
He said more than 70% of the country’s population depends on farming as an occupation and they use local implements, thereby exposing their unprotected eyes to danger, stressing that most of them do not go for medical check-up, until their ailments become worst.
Dr Amaghere believed that the eyes treatment outreach will sensitize the public to go for routine check to ascertain their health status to minimize cases of blindness.
The eye treatment outreach programme, which began Monday, is expected to cover the entire 12 wards of Jema’a Local Government by Friday.
