Farmer Petitions Niger CP Over Alleged Extra Judicial Killings

A farmer in Tagina Kabata village in Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State, Mohammed Bello Alhaji, has petitioned the state Commissioner of Police over extra judicial killings, robbery and extortion of money by the Chairman of the vigilante group, Zakari Alawa and his allies.

In the petition titled, “Act of massacred killings, robbery of the sum of seven Hundred and eighty thousand naira and extortion of seventy thousand naira against Zakari Alawa, the Chairman Vigilante of Alawa and his Allies ” Alhaji said a team of vigilante of Alawa led by Zakari Alawa stormed the mosque and took away seven people praying to unknown destination.

The petition filed on behalf of Alhaji by Ibadur-Rahman Associates (El-Ikhwan Chambers) on 2nd June,2017 copied to the Governor of Niger state and other security agencies and made available to reporters in Minna also accused Alawa, chairman of the vigilante of knowing the whereabouts of the seven people we cannot trace where they are.

The petition read in parts, “on 5th May, 2017 our client said that Abubakar Usman, 60, Aliyu Usman, 57, Buderi Idiris, 25, Ahmadu Usman, 35, Umaru Usman, 12, Abubakar kadiri, 57 and Ilu Dere, 25, were praying in the mosque, a team of vigilante men led by Zakari Alawa, the Chairman vigilante of Alawa stormed the mosque and whisked them away and since then they could not return nor any trace of them heard from anybody. ”

“Our client client on Monday went to Zakari Alawa, to know their whereabouts but he told our client that he handed them over to the military and extorted the sum of N70,000 from him that he will give to the military for their released. ”

According to Alhaji, “when I could not see them I went to the military and was told that nobody was handed over to them and I further went to police stations in the area including Kagara Divisional station but could not trace them and I concluded that these people have been killed by the vigilante men for no reasons.”

“It should be noted that Abubakar Usman, was having with him the sum of N750,000 to pay for his Hajj that very day he was whisked away and Abubakar Kadiri was having with him the sum of N30,000 while he was whisked away. ”

He said the reason for whisking them away is not disclosed, “I’m apprehensive that they have been brutally murdered and robbed of their money. Zakari had declared that he hates Fulani and until they vacate the area he will kill them. ”

The petitioner said that the vigilante men under the disguise of security in that area have killed over 20 Fulani’s, adding that some corpses are only found flouting on the river without knowing where they were killed.

He prayed the CP to order full-scale investigation into the matter and immediately prosecute Zakari Alawa and his allies.
