Second Republic Senator from Benue State Sen. Jack Tilley-Gyado, has said that the North-Central geopolitical zone is okay with the position of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and called on those seeking the return of the APC National Chairmanship to the North Central to desist henceforth.

Sen. Tilley-Gyado spoke on Wednesday 14 February 2024 when the North Central Elders Forum paid a solidarity visit to the APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.

Addressing Dr. Ganduje, Sen. Tilley-Gyado said: “First, I want to say to you that we have come here this afternoon, fully aware that the whole country is looking at us, fully aware that the whole country is listening to us. We have come in broad daylight to give you support. It is a very serious matter. We are here to give you on-the-spot assessment. Elections have come and gone. Like my Senate President said, it is time to manage the victory of this party. And if you stand to manage the victory of this party we must get square pegs in square holes, round pegs in round holes.

“Zoning formula has brought us a lot of stability. For anybody, any group of people to imagine that you can wake up suddenly to change the zoning formula, switch things around. I think it will spell disaster and doom in the smooth running of governments and the pattern across the country.

“You (Ganduje) are doing a great job. You run to everywhere there is crisis. Like my Senate President said you are unbiased,

“Everybody has a sense of belonging under your leadership. Everybody is carried along under your leadership. A man like that is needed to support President Tinubu in his wonderous effort to turn things around, give us dividends of democracy in a very difficult situation that we find ourselves in this country today. You are a necessary factor in the success of the Tinubu Administration.

“We, from the North Central came here to give you support in broad daylight. Having said that, it is our thinking that North Central has already been taken care of in the affairs of this government. We have a very very important position – the chief scribe of this government, namely the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, His excellency, Distinguish Senator George Akume (CON).

“We are very happy with that appointment. He is very efficient. He has the experience. He is the classmate of the president; they were governors together from 1999 through 2007. They know each other very well. Distinguished Senator Akume also happened to be in the same party with Mr. President. That is the ACN, he was in the Senate for 12 years and in those 12 years was minority leader. So they understand each other very, very, very well. He occupies that position and to the best of our knowledge he’s doing very well.

“In the political affairs of this country, to say the chairmanship should come to the North Central clearly that will disrupt the status quo and we don’t want it. We want the SGF to remain in the North Central. The North West can keep the National Chairman. The elders have spoken and we are the voices of all. And when we speak, we speak the position of God.”
