From Tunde Suleman, Minna
Former Nigerian Military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, has thrown his weight behind the candidature of former Governor of Abia State Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, for the Presidency of football governing body, Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA).
The Elder statesman made this disclosure on Sunday when he spoke with the media as part of plans to mark his 74th Birthday at his Uphill mansion, Minna.
When asked about his opinion on his political godson gunning for football’s number one seat, IBB said “he has my support.”
Accordingly, he said “Kalu has countless of achievements to show from his performance, as two-time governor of Abia state. He made Enyimba what they are today, because it was through his effort that Nigeria broke the CAF Champions’ League jinx. He won the competition twice as well as the Super Cup.
“I will vote for him; I don’t think it is a bad outing. His interest in sports especially in football and the successes recorded with Enyimba Football Club actually brought the club to the limelight.
“If his contribution is recognised outside this country, there is nothing wrong in saying that he should run for FIFA Presidency. If I have a vote I will cast my vote for him.”
