From Tom Garba, Yola
Deputy Speaker, Adamawa State House of Assembly, Hon. Sunday Peter, has said that the first legislative year of the Assembly state was full of many progressive achievements. He therefore scored the lawmakers high for the feat.
According to him, “all the 25 legislators have sponsored one bill or the other. Within one year of our stewardship as lawmakers, we had more than 33 bills being processed to becoming law. Three bills have been passed into law, and almost all of us have constructed one capital projects or the other worth millions of naira in our various constituencies.
Peter added that the Assembly’s one year experience was also a smooth journey to both the lawmakers and with the executive, with each independently working without interference from any quarters, fracas or rancour.
The deputy Speaker spoke after a reshuffle of committee chairmen in the House in Yola, stressing that the changes had nothing to do with any purported feud or vendetta as it was perceived by the public.
His words: “We are brothers and sister in the state House of Assembly working in the spirit of unity to achieve a goal. Each one of us was voted as a member representing one constituency or the other not as chairman of any committee and we are united to move Adamawa forward.
“That’s why in our various meetings we emphasise that all of must bring out laws that will have a direct bearing on the people of the state, and we will have bills that will support our governor to work well”.
Peter chairs three committees of the Assembly – Information, Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and SPPU. He is also vice chairman and member of many committees.
The Chief Whip and Chairman, Committee of Information Hon. Hassan Mamman Barguma has been relieved of his duties and given the committee on internally displaced persons (IDPs) to chair.
