Niger State Chairman of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore Social Cultural Association, Mallam Muhammad Abubakar Tukur, has appealed to the state government to as a matter of urgency intervene to resolve the continued clashes between the Fulani herdsmen and Gbagyi people.
Tukur gave the charge yesterday in an interview in Minna while speaking with reporters. He stressed that this had become necessary sequel to continued clashes that has resulted into loss of lives on both sides.
He claimed that 14 Fulani herdsmen have been killed in the recent clashes between them and Gbagyi people and regretted that this was not normal as both groups had being living together for quite sometimes in a peaceful manner, wondering why the recent change for the bad in their relationship..
He therefore charged the state government to quickly call on the leaders of both parties for a round-table discussion and dialogue so as to settle the matter once and for all to allow peace to reign in various communities of the state.
Tukur pointed out that both Gbagyi and Fulani shared same occupation of farming and cattle-breeding hence needed to leave together harmoniously for the development and progress of all by settling their differences that has resulted in the loss of innocent souls in the process.
The Sarkin Fulani mentioned some of the villages where such clashes occurred that claimed lives to include Gunu, Lambata and Sabon Daga, among others. He added that clashes broke out over issues that can be resolved without bloodshed, describing the situation as “very unfortunate.”
He further disclosed that some of the cattle rustlers find their ways into the state from Zamfara state having suffered setback in that state. He noted that the new comers were not known to them the early settlers and they do not listening to them, hence the major cause of most of the clashes in the state. He called for government to increase security vigilance in the state.
