The Centre for Disaster Risk Management, Federal University of Technology (FUT), Minna is in partnership with the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) so as to implement research work carried out to the benefit of the society.
Director of the Centre, Prof. Dukiya Jaiye Jehoshaphat, made this disclosure in Minna when paid a courtesy visit to the agency .
He said this became necessary because any research carried out without its implementation, the impact would not be felt by the society.
He noted that the Centre was created to serve as a data base to feed the nation as advisory role for policy making and finding solutions to disasters in various ways rather than going about with relief materials to cushion the effect of disaster victims.
Jehoshaphat explained that eleven programmes have been itemized for continues training and retraining of the agency workers while charging them in the areas of sponsorship of research works and simulation activities on disaster occurrence in the three senatorial districts of the state to ensure prevention.
Director General of NSEMA, Mallam Ahmed Ibrahim Inga, in his remarks assured the Centre of full collaboration in both theoretical and practical to ensure minimal disaster occurrence in the society as strategies has been put in place for the sensitization of various communities in the state.
He reiterated the commitment of the agency in actualizing the simulation of the three senatorial zones of the state hence to commenced the training and retraining of its workforce to ensure they are updated in their knowledge of disaster management globally.
