Gov Aliyu, Wamakko Donate N16 Million To Kidnap Victims

Leader of the All Progressives Party (APC) in Sokoto state and Senator representing Sokoto North Senatorial District, Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko yesterday donated N10 million to the 66 rescued abducted persons from the state. 

Wamakko, who also donated a Hilux to each of the security formations in the 8 local government areas of Sokoto East Senatorial District where the rescued abductees were from, said it was to complement the initial N100,000 and a bag of rice, millet and corn given to each of the 66 persons by the Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu. 

Wamakko expressed satisfaction with the governor’s performance in delivering of dividents of democracy since election, saying Sokoto has truly made a wise choice in Ahmed Aliyu. 

Wamakko said: “Before the election, I know how many people were kicking against the choice of Ahmed Aliyu as our candidate in the APC, but I am happy today that all those criticizing our candidate then, are now surprised at the level of good governance being witness in Sokoto”. 

Speaking earlier, Governor Ahmed Aliyu said  those rescued from the bandits included 52 persons from Gundumi forest and Isa and another 14 from Gudu and Tangaza local government areas of Sokoto State. 

According to the governor, the day mark yet another milestone in their collective efforts towards ending banditry, kidnapping and other criminal activities in the state. 

The governor said: “From the report I received, 52 were first rescued on Friday from Gundumi forest in Isa Local Government Area and another 14 on Saturday at Tangaza and Gudu forest Local Governments respectively. 

“This is indeed, a commendable effort by the security agencies especially, the Operation Hadarin Daji. 

“As you are aware, our continued commitment towards fighting banditry and all other forms of crimes in the state was further demonstrated recently when we assisted security agencies with 70 operational  utility vehicles which include Hilux and Buffalos brand. 

“And to further demonstrate our commitment to security of lives and properties of the people of the state, the State Assembly recently passed the bill for the establishment of community guards in the state”. 

While urging the religious leaders in Sokoto State to continue to pray for peace and progress of the state, governor Ahmed Aliyu also appealed to communities to share valuable information with their leaders and securiry agencies. 

Continuing, Governor Aliyu said, “We will not relent until we ensure that Sokoto is safe, secured and put on the path of  economic prosperity.”

In his appeal for effective collaboration and timely information from the locals, the Garrisons Commander 8 Division, Nigeria Army,  Brigadier General Alex Tawasini, who led the rescue team of Operation Hadarin Daji, appraised the gallantry of the officers, saying the Nigeria secuerity agencies are on their toes to ensure a peace and secure country for all. 

To Sokoto State governor, Brig Gen Tawasini said, “‘Here we are again to present to you 66 abductees that were rescued in our efforts to sanitize the forest around the general areas of Gundumi. 

“This is in continuation of our efforts to ensure that all our areas are safe and that locals stay back in the places without any fear. 

“We want to ensure that Sokoto state and its environs remains safe for all as we promised”, Brig Gen Tawasini assured.
