The ABS Leadership Forum has said that there was no political motive behind the recent visit of Senate President Bukola Saraki and other senators to the troubled Borno State.
Rather, the group said Saraki’s initiative was to complement efforts of President Muhammadu Buhari in tackling insurgency in the country.
Reacting to a an op-ed, titled “Bukola Saraki in Maiduguri:Tentative first step for 2019 presidency”, authored by a newspaper columnist, Mr. Modibbo Ishaq Kawu, the coordinator of ABS Leadership Forum, Alhaji Usman Bibire Ajape, said Saraki should be praised for his ingenuity rather than be vilified.
Ajape, who insisted that the visit was not the making of the Senate President, said that it was a product of the resolution of the Senate during plenary.
He also said that there could not have been a better way to show the troubled people of Borno State and the North East that the entire nation feels their pains than by the visit of the legislators, which he said would assure them that the Senate would pass legislation that
would help restore normalcy in the state.
Ajape expressed the hope that the Senate would use the visit to initiate moves to provide succour for the victims of insurgency, as well as prepare for their rehabilitation, reconstruction of infrastructure and rebuilding the economy of the area after achieving quick
resolution of the crisis.
He also said that the visit to Borno by the senators had provided the icing on the cake of the Change mantra of the present government, describing it as sacrifice.
According to him, “the antics of the writer of the article and his co-travellers” would not deter the eighth Senate and its leadership from carrying out duties that would benefit the nation.
He also urged President Buhari, the party leadership, the Senate, the House of Representative and other relevant stakeholders to work with the Senate President as partners in progress.
