Against the backdrop of rumour making the rounds that the relationship between the Hausa and Igbo communities in Jema’a Local Government was not cordial, the two communities met to dispel the unfounded assertion.
The meeting chaired by the deputy Chief / Iman of Jema’a, Alhaji, Kabir Mami Kassim, was also intended to consolidate on the existing peaceful atmosphere existing among the communities.
Speaking to newsmen shortly after the meeting, Kassim said it sought to strengthen the long-standing mutual trust and understanding between the Hausas and Igbos that was being threatened by rumour peddlers.
The deputy chief Iman urged those peddling such unfounded rumour to desists from the unwholesome act that have the capacity of igniting trouble among the peace-loving people of the area.
Also in an interview, the president of Igbo community in Kafanchan, Mr. Martin Okoli, appreciated the synergy between both communities which was geared towards stemming the tide of communal clashes.
Mr. Okoli said such rumour, if allowed to spread unchecked could lead to wanton destruction of lives and property as well as jeopardize general development.
