The National Universities Commission NUC has commissioned Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU), Lapai to lead the development of sectoral component of the blueprint for Nigeria’s prosperity in 2050 with a view for providing solutions to its challenges confronting it.
Vice Chancellor, IBBU, Prof Muhammad Nasir Maiturare, made this disclosure in his remarks at a one-day Research Retreat on Nigeria’s Prosperity in 2050 Blueprint, Africa Centres of Excellence and NNPC Renewable Energy Collaboration Proposals Development organized by the university’s Centre for Applied Sciences and Technology Research (CASTER) at Lapai.
Maiturare explained that the choice of the institution by NUC was in recognition of its national and global reputation in research and scholarly achievements in various sectoral areas.
He appreciated the NUC for having confidence in the university to participate in the national project of a blueprint for developing Science, Technology and Innovations (STI) in Nigeria of 2050 and assured of quality position paper that would provide positive solutions to the expected population expansion.
Director, Centre for Applied Sciences and Technology Research of the University, Prof. Nuhu Obaje, said that the retreat was aimed at collating interim reports of research terms that had been tasked on the NUC project and to develop action plan on other research projects.
Obaje assured that IBBU has the requisite intellectual capacity to develop a blueprint that could effectively manage the expected nation’s population by 2050 and the likely threats and opportunities that could accompany it.
The blueprint development terms were on Renewable Energy led by Dr. Dickson Musa Achinmugu of Biochemistry Department, Mining and Industrialization led by Dr Stephen Agwuncha of Chemistry Department and Water Resources led by Dr. Samuel Ibrahim of Geography Department.
