Kwara State Governor, Dr Abdulfatah Ahmed has given assurances that the projected N2 billion naira internally generated revenue for the state would be achieved without additional burden on tax payers.
Governor Ahmed gave this indication in Ilorin when he inspected the new office complex of the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service and the office of the State Revenue Tribunal under construction and rehabilitation respectively.
Ahmed explained that the new revenue generation drive would be premised on the employment of electronic system in tax collection, rather than the introduction of new forms of taxes.
“The major issue we want to address is the collection process which we intend to drive electronically and our estimate is that there is so much leakages, not in payment but on collection”, he said.
The governor added that his administration was putting in place necessary human and material machinery that will ensure effective take off of the new initiative in the next one month.
While urging the people of the state not to entertain any fear about the tax drive, Ahmed assured Kwarans that only the manner of payment of taxes would change and not what they pay as payment would now be made direct to banks.
