More facts have emerged on why Delta State House of Assembly placed a three-month suspension on two of her members, Prince Erijo Johnson, the member representing Isoko 11 constituency and Mrs Pat Ajudua representing Oshimili North constituency on Tuesday.
A reliable source who confided in our correspondent revealed that the move to suspend the two members was done quickly to avert an impending impeachment of the Assembly Speaker, Hon. Monday Igbuya and other principal officials.
According to the source, the former Speaker of the House, Hon. Victor Ochei, had during the Assembly members’ training invited some lawmakers said to be his loyalists to his Philadelphia resident and lobbied them to change the House leadership.
“What happened today was as a result of a botched impeachment plan. Ochei invited some lawmakers to his Philadelphia resident during the Atlanta visit and that was where he lobbied our lawmakers to perfect a change in leadership. They also held other meetings in Atlanta.”
The source listed the lawmakers present at the meeting with Hon. Ochei to include, Hon. Peter Onwusanya, Hon. Ruben Izeze, Hon. Adophus Ojo, Hon. Angela Nwaka, and Hon. Azuka Azaka.
Others were Hon. Samuel Mariere, Hon. Johnson Erijo, Hon. Pat Ajudua, and Hon. Denis Omovie
However, sensing that the impeachment was about to be moved on resumption date (Tuesday), Igbuya and his loyalist quickly handed a suspension for insubordination to Hon. Erijo and Pat Ajudua, the source added.
It was learnt that the House suspended only Erijo and Pat Ajudua in order not to cause a public outcry in the state and protests by their constituents as other lawmakers are in constant touch with their constituents.
If the impeachment plot had sailed through, Marieri would have emerged Speaker, Onwusanya Deputy Speaker, while Erijo would have become the Majority Leader.
The source further explained that the former Speaker and governorship aspirant who later contested for Delta North senatorial seat on the platform of Accord Party was currently romancing with the governor of the state. “The governor is using Hon. Ochei who knows the intrigue of Assembly politics to impeached Speaker Igbuya” he alleged.
Unconfirmed source said that the embattled lawmaker Hon. Erijo was seeing roaming around Government House every day but his mission could not be ascertained.
Effort made to get the chief press secretary to the governor and that of the Speaker to react to the development proved abortive as at the time of filling this report.
