Nigeria’s best players of the moment, Segun Toriola and Bode Abiodun booked their places in the second round of the ITTF Premier Lotto Nigeria Open.
Toriola was made to work hard for the victory as Portugal’s Diogo Carvalho stretched the former African champion to the seventh game in a thrilling match watched by a capacity crowd at the Molade Okoya-Thomas Hall of Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos.
But with experience and calmness, Toriola gave the fans something to cheer with a 4-3 win to edge out the Portuguese.
Also, Bode Abiodun wasted no time in beating Wale Fagbamila 4-2 while Ojo Onaolapo was shown the exit by Portugal’s ZHAO Tianming with a 4-0 bashing.
However, the star player of the day was Nigeria’s Tobi Falana who bundled out seeded Ghanaian Felix Lartey with a 4-2 win to the admiration of the fans.
Nigerian players had no chance in the men’s U-21 as Egypt’s Shady Magdy and Portugal’s Diogo Chen battle for the title.
