In a bid to check criminal activities associated with commercial motorcycle riders popularly known as okada riders, the Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State has embarked on registration of all commercial motorcycles in the area
Declaring open the commencement of the registration exercise at the Local Government Secretariat the Interim Management Council chairman, Dr. Bege Katuka said the exercise was meant to protect their business and the lives and property of passengers from activities of hoodlums.
He explained that the decision was taken to identify genuine members from those who hide in the name of okada operators to perpetrate criminal activities.
The IMC chairman said every registered okada rider will be given reflective jacket with inscription of Jema’a Local Government and Identification number.
The exercise, he said will last till July 16, 2016, when security agencies will impound unregistered okada riders or those who refused wearing authorized reflection jackets.
