From Tom Garba, Yola
The Community of Jimeta in Yola North Local Government Area has called on the Adamawa Emirate Council to remove their District Head, Alhaji Mohammed Baba-Paris and replaced him with a new God-fearing and competent leader.
Addressing a press conference in Yola on Tuesday on behalf of the community, Alhaji Musa Garba, said that the call for the removal of the district head was needed for peace to reign in the area.
Garba alleged that the community had lost confidence in the leadership style of the district head, hence they want him removed.
He confirmed that the community, after wide consultations, wrote a petition to Adamawa Emirate Council on November 5, 2015 calling for the removal of the district head.
Garba said: “I wish to inform you that as member of the Adamawa State Peace Committee and person vested with the protection of lives and property in the state, I wrote and distributed the petition on behalf of Jimeta Community demanding for the removal of Alhaji Mohammed Baba-Paris as district head of Jimeta.
“Also on behalf of the community, I appealed to His Royal Highness, the Lamido of Adamawa, Alhaji Muhammadu Barkindo, to appoint for us a God-fearing and competent new leader.”
He complained that among the reasons why the community wants the district head to be removed include his lack of respect and sympathy for elders, religious leaders and zero approach in sustaining peace in the community.
When contacted over the situation, the District Head, Alhaji Ziyad Baba-Paris, confirmed that they were aware of the petition.
Baba-Paris however said that such petitions were normal.
“We are informed about the petition and you know such allegations are normal.” Baba-Paris said.
