
Kaduna Councils Start Fertilizer Sale

Sanga local government on Tuesday launched the 2017 fertilizer sales with a call on well-to-do individuals not to hijack the commodity at the detriment of farmers.
Administrator of the Council, Abdulmumin Yakubu Ishaya, made the call during a ceremony held at the Local Government Council Secretarial Gwantu.
Ishaya said government was more concerned about the common farmer who finds it difficult to purchase the fertilizers on the open market.
The administrator urged farmers and people of the area to be one another’s keepers through peaceful co-existence that would enhance progress.
In a welcome address, the Director Agriculture and Natural Resources, Mr. Felix Yayock, advised farmers against diversion, as according to him, it will defeat the purpose for which it was meant.
A beneficiary, Sunday John, requested that in future the fertilizer be supplied early before the month of April, when the dry season begins, so as to allow farmers make adequate planning.
Similarly, the Jema’a Local Government has flagged off the sales of fertilizer for the year 2017 to farmers in the area.
Administrator of the council, Yusuf Usman Muazu, who performed the ceremony called on farmers to shun diversion of the commodity.
Muazu said the Kaduna State Government was concerned about agricultural development and has made fertilizer available at a relatively low cost of N5, 500 per bag.
He said the local government would procure 74 trucks of the commodity out of which four trucks had so far been received and has been distributed for direct sales to farmers in the area.
The administrator appealed to the people of the area to continue to live in peace with one another to enhance bumper harvest and the execution of planned projects and programs by Government.
Director of Agriculture and Natural Resources of the local government, Dr. Billy Ishaya Laah, urged farmers to follow the modalities of purchasing the commodity.
Speaking on behalf of traditional rulers, the Emir of Jema’a, Alh. Muhammadu Isa Muhammadu, appreciated government for making fertilizer available and called on farmers to make proper use of it.
