Wednesday, November 16, 2016 has been registered as a ”black day” in the history of the Kaduna State Media Corporation (KSMC) as two members of its staff lost their lives and eight others sustained varying degree of injuries in an auto – crash along Samaru Kataf – Kagoro road.
The ugly incident occurred at about 8:00 pm at Malagum Village, when the staff of the corporation, FM Rock Side Station Kafanchan were returning from Kaduna, where they under gone a staff verification exercise.
Mr. Wisdom Adamu, a senior Reporter, who drove the Sharon vehicle they hired for the trip, indicated that a motorcyclist dabbled into their lane, to which he swung to the other lane and successfully escaped running over him, but in attempt to return to his lane, the steering locked up, skidding off the road and summersaulting twice, which led to the injuries.
The members of staff who died were Douglas Steven an announcer 32 years old and Godwin Sunday, a security officer 28 years of age. They have since been buried.
FM Rock Side Station Manager, Mr Gideon Bitrus who visited the injured victims at the Sir Patrick Yakowa General Hospital Kafanchan described the accident as pathetic and unfortunate; praying to God to grant the persons, KSMC management, its staff and relatives of victims, the fortitude to bear the sad incident.
Mr. Bitrus lamented that the staff who were casual workers left Kafanchan joyfully and appreciative to God and the state Government for giving them the opportunity to serve, came back in sadness, because of the accident.
Six of the victims have responded to medical treatment and discharged from the hospital. Mr. Raymond Shamaki, a technical staff was referred to Kaduna for spinal injury, while Mercy Dogo – an announcer was still in the Kafanchan hospital receiving treatment.
