Kaduna Quarantines Private School Over Lassa Fever Case

A private health institution, Kama School of Health Technology Zakwa, kafanchan has been quarantined by the authority of the Jema’a Local Government in Kaduna State over a confirmed case of Lassa Fever.
The measure became necessary following a confirmation report from the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) that a student from the school presently receiving treatment at the hospital is suffering from Lassa Fever.
The student, who was initially treated for fever at the Kafanchan General Hospital had to be taken to JUTH by her relations, when the fever persisted. Upon intensive investigations, JUTH confirmed the illness to be Lassa fever and communicated the General Hospital Kafanchan, where the first treatment was given.
The student, who hails from Dutsen Pulchi, Dassa Local Government Area of Bauchi State was said to have reported to the school after the Christmas holidays, a forthnight ago, with signs of fever.
Director of Healthcare Services of the local government Mrs. Christiana Musa, who disclosed the development to newsmen, said necessary measures have been put in place to check the possible spread of the disease. Mrs Musa appealed to government at all levels to as a matter of urgency assist by providing necessary facilities to secure the health of the affected community.
Commenting on the issue, Sole Administrator of the local government, Mr Leo Shekari, appealed to the people of the area not to panic but continue to maintain high level of personal and environmental hygiene.
