In a bid to improving health standards of residents of Kaduna State, the administration of Governor Ahmed Nasir El-Rufai has undertaken measures to rehabilitate all abattoirs across the state in line with ongoing health reforms.
This cheery news was disclosed by a committee on abattoirs reconstruction during a one-day sensitization held on Tuesday at the Jema’a Local Secretarial kafanchan for butchers in the area.
Speaking while using video clips to review the deplorable state of abattoirs in Nigeria, particularly in Kaduna state, Dr. Ade Jolaosho, Leader of Abattoirs reconstruction committee, said poor management and maintenance of abattoirs was contributing to the poor health of the Nigerian population: “Something must be done quickly to check the ugly trend to provide people with good and hygienic meat”, Jolaosho said.
He applauded the initiatives of Governor El-Rufai towards the reconstruction of all abattoirs in the state and institutionalise best practices of handling animals when slaughtered and meat processing before being sold to the public, describing it a mark of love and high sense of responsibility as a leader.
“It is in this regard that it become necessary to carry the butchers and meat sellers along in planning and decision making, hence the sensitization workshop”, Dr. Jolaosho said.
Giving his royal blessing, the Emir of Jama’a, Alhaji Muhammad Isa Muhammad, represented by Madugun Jama’a, Alhaji Isa Tanko lauded the governor for good initiatives in reforms agenda, which have extended to giving abattoirs a facelift that will contribute to improvement of health standards.
The traditional ruler prayed for peaceful co-existence in the country and successful prosecution of all reforms that will enhance general development.
Chief Butcher, Kaduna state, Alhaji Sulaiman Sabo, applauded the initiatives of the state government in rehabilitating all abattoirs and carrying the butchers along in decision making and planning, with a view to improving public health.
He believes if the initiatives are well manage, they will provide more jobs for the youth directly or indirectly, promising the co-operation of butchers in the state.
Participants at the workshop accepted government initiative to improve the condition of abattoirs and meat processing in the state.
