An end to the lingering crises rocking Kogi State House of Assembly seems not in sight as the faction of the embattled Speaker, Rt. Hon. Momohjimoh Lawal described the impeachment as a mere executive impunity and interference.

The faction of Hon. Momohjimoh Lawal, the G15, had on the heels of the crises approached the House of Representatives to wade in for appropriate resolution.

In a response to the request of the G15, the House of Representatives had invoked section 11(4) of the 1999 Constitution which empowers the National Assembly to take charge of any State Assembly if the latter could not carry out legislative business by the reason of prevailing situation in the state.

Perplexed by the continued sitting of the faction led by Rt.Hon. Umar Ahmed Imam, the Majority Leader Hon. Prince Kolawole who accused the Executive of interfering in legislative business described the impeachment as null and void.
Hon. Kolawole, at a press briefing in Lokoja advised Kogi people to disregard any resolution that may emanate from what he described as ‘illegal sitting of few’ members of the House.
“While we would not like to join issues with anyone, it is important to clear some doubts created by some sponsored mischief makers who kept making a lot of noises in the media” he added.

The Majority Leader, who concurred that there was an agreement on the zoning of major political positions in the state insisted that the choice of who occupies each position in the State House of Assembly should not be determined by the Executive arm of government.
He said, “Virtually all members were in agreement that major political positions in the state should be zoned to ensure balancing, but the choice of who occupies each of the positions in the House should be left for the members and not the Executive”
The G15, who unequivocally opposed the purported impeachment of Hon. Momohjimoh Lawal as the Speaker therefore resolved to fight what they described as impunity of five members of the House.
Meanwhile, it was learnt from a reliable source that the faction led by Hon. Umar Ahmed Imam had continued with plenaries on the floor of the State House of Assembly complex.
