Worried by the low standard of education in the area, the Ilorin West Local Government Council in Kwara State has pledged to introduce measures with a view to improving learning and teaching in its secondary schools.
To achieve the objective, the council slated that it would henceforth ensure thorough supervision of its schools from time to time to enable it asses the principals and teachers on the field in various schools.
Ilorin West Local Government Education Secretary, Alhaji Saka Animashun, slated this in his address at the maiden interactive meeting organised for the principals in the local government.
He said that the council is determined to address the rot in the system, stressing that to achieve the set goals depends on how proactive every stakeholders is.
Animashaun also called for change of attitudes from the principals, vice-principals and teachers.
However, some of the principals who spoke with The Dream Daily, lamented that they have not been able to achieve results in their schools because some teachers believed they got their appointments through the politicians and therefore do whatever they like in the schools.
They, however, appealed to the council through the education secretary to come to their aid in order to tackle the challenges facing them in their various schools.
