The Kwara State chapter of Odua Peoples Congress (OPC) has declared its support for Senate President Bukola Saraki and Speaker, House of Representatives, Hon. Yaqub Dongara, following their recent election into the leadership of the upper and lower chambers of the National Assembly.
The State Coordinator of OPC, Comrade Maruff Olarewaju, who declared the group’s support in a statement made available to Journalists in Ilorin said the aggrieved All Progressive Congress (APC) lawmakers should sheath their swords and embrace Saraki and Dongara as the Senate President and House Speaker, stressing that the development was divine as “God gives power to whom He wants.”
The statement read in part: “We also call on All Progressive Congress (APC) leaders, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Alhaji Lai Muhammed, Bisi Akande and all others grumbling
senators to learn how to concede defeat like former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan did in last general elections.
“Moreso Tinubu must also aware that what goes up always around. In 2011 when Hon. Mulikat was to be elected as Speaker of the House of Representatives, it was him (Tinubu) who make sure that she (Mulikat) didn’t get to the position of Speaker by instigated the members of the ACN against the woman and pave way for Hon. Aminu Tambuwal to become Speaker.
“Nobody call for Tinubu’s head then. He can’t be dictating the political pace in Lagos and thinks the entire Nigeria is under his control, Nigeria is bigger than any individual, groups, narrow minded and selfishness people. Tinubu should also realise that the era of godfatherism is gradually going out in Nigeria politics, he should by now wake up from his slumber and face the reality on ground.”
The Kwara OPC coordinator added that “whoever believes in democracy and good governance will definitely support the emergency of Dr Bukola Saraki and Hon Yaqub Dogara as Senate President and Speaker of House of Representatives.”
