From Victor Seyi, Ilorin
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has said that the All Progressives Congress (APC) APC government in the state has concluded plan to clamp down on
opposition in the state with sponsored arrest of its members.
Speaking with journalists in Ilorin on Tuesday, the PDP state chairman, Akogun Iyiola Oyedepo, said the state government and the ruling APC had accused members of the opposition for the attack on dignitaries during Sallah prayers in Ilorin.
In a reaction, the state government through the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the governor, Alhaji Wahab Oba, debunked the allegation, saying “this is not time for politicking.”
Oba said: “What could have warranted us running after PDP in Kwara state? What is the strength of the party here? I think the leaders of the party should simply search their conscience and see if it is their past that his hunting them.
“In Kwaran politics, it is the PDP that has the records of violence as showed in their last primary elections where dangerous weapons were freely used to settle political scores. On our side, it was an absolute peace. This is not time for politicking or raising of
baseless allegations. They should form a credible option rather than
crying wolf where there is none”, he said.
The opposition party, which called on the police authority and all other law enforcement agents in the state to protect members of the PDP, also said the public should note the
development.
“The people of Kwara state know that we only practice civilised opposition. Where we see the need to praise the government, we have always been doing so. Where we need to tell the truth to the people about the wrong ways and manners that we have been governed we only talk with facts and figures. Any attempt to kill, arrest or even illegally disturb our lawful activities will amount to intolerance of the opposition which is antithetical to the workings and the practice of democratic governance”, the party said.
