Common sense at last prevailed at the National Research Institute for Chemical Technology (NARICT), Zaria as the acting Director-General (DG), Prof. Mohammed Yakubu. Finally handed over the leadership of the institute to the new DG, Prof. Jef. T. Barminas.
Prof. Yakubu had refused to handover to Prof. Barminas, insisting that he (Prof. Kabir) remains acting DG of NARICT, a situation that was threatening to snowball into a crisis, which would have pitted members of staff and even the host community of the institute against one another.
Prof. Barminas was recently appointed DG by President Muhammadu Buhari
The hand-over took place penultimate Friday at the institute’s premises where the public relations officer (PRO) of NARICT introduced Prof. Barminas to the management and staff in the institute’s boardroom.
Prof. Barminas said he thanked God for the smooth handover event and expressed his gratitude to President Buhari for the appointment.
He also appreciated the entire staff of NARICT for the warm reception.
Prof. Barminas stated that the economy of any nation depends on research and therefore solicited for the cooperation of the management and staff of NARICT in order for the institute to fulfil its research mandate.
He pledged to be accountable, transparent and fair to all at the institute, saying all members of staff should be free to approach him with brilliant ideas.
A transition team was set up to assess the handover notes. It is expected to conclude its work in three weeks.
Prof. Yakubu became acting DG after a Prof. Idris M. Bugaje finished his five-year tenure as DG of NARICT last year.
