At a plenary on Monday, members of the Adamawa State House of Assembly condemned the report of the Maurice Wonobolki ad hoc committee on Local Governments Staff Salaries investigation conducted some weeks ago, declaring it to be “null and avoid”.
A lawmaker representing Jada Mbula in the Adamawa state House of Assembly, Hon Umar Hammanjoda, who raised the motion, argued that the committee did not do a throughout job.
He said: “What we are saying is that the committee has not done what it is supposed to do. The good intentions of Governor Bindow to sanitise the salaries problems of the 21 LGAs have not been done well by the committee that is saddled with the responsibility”.
Umar suggest that the state government, before implementing the e-payment for the LGA employees that denied thousands of people their salaries, should revisit the screening exercise done by the committee.
Another Member who is representing Madagali constituency, Hon. Emmanuel Tsamdu, said that the exercise had only succeeded in sacking innocent indigene of his constituency.
He lamented that over 270 indigenes of Madagali were affected, explaining “that some have worked for 10,12 and even 13 years receiving salaries but all of a sudden their names did not appear for their monthly salaries.”
“What that committee did is totally unacceptable, we want to know the parameters they used in sacking people of level 10,12, and 13, sacking them in the name of ghost workers “. Tsandu lamented.
Recall that the reports of the committee uncovered over 12,000 staff of the Local Government commission as ghost workers.
However, the state government has announced that those affected who have genuine claims should come forward to present their claims.
