The Federal Capital Territory Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, has urged the Nigerian Film industry and other critical stakeholders to redouble their efforts in identifying and promoting creativity, particularly narratives that empower the girl-child.
The Minister made this call at the unveiling of ‘Roberta,’ a cinematic masterpiece that embodies the essence of resilience, empowerment, and redemption in the narrative of the girl-child, held at the Silverbird Cinema in Abuja.
Mahmoud, who was represented by the Special Assistant on Social Investment Programme and FCT Coordinator of SIP, Hajia Maijidda Adamu Kuku, also called for collective works towards creating an environment where the voices and talents of girls are nurtured and celebrated.
The Minister, however, commended the unwavering advocacy of Amb. Steph-Nora Okere’s dedication towards girl-child upliftment in Nigeria.
“I would say that today marks a pivotal moment as we unveil ‘Roberta,’ a cinematic masterpiece that embodies the essence of resilience, empowerment, and redemption in the narrative of the girl-child.
“It is a commendable initiative, a show of creativity, and a big step towards girl-child upliftment.
“The advancement of the cause of the girl-child is a project that is dear to my heart and I assure you of my absolute endorsement and support,” Mahmoud assured.
She further stated that ‘Roberta’ is not just a film, but a call to action for the empowerment and upliftment of the girl-child.
While calling on stakeholders to strive for a brighter and more inclusive future for the girl child, Mahmoud stressed that the film inspire many Nigerians to champion the cause of the girl-child and create a brighter future for generations to come.
On her part, the producer of Roberta, Amb. Steph-Nora Okere, noted that her childhood experience as a girl-child shaped her in bringing this gripping tale to life.
The veteran actor, however, solicited for the support of the Ministry of Arts and Culture and stakeholders in the Nigerian Film industry to work together towards creating a conducive environment for the growth and development of the sector, a statement by SA Media to the FCT Minister of State, Austine Elemue, disclosed.
