Modibbo Adama University of Technology (MAUTECH), Yola, is to honour a retired school teacher with Doctor of Letters for his dedication, discipline and integrity while in public service.
Vice Chancellor (VC) of the university, Prof. Kyari Mohammed, made this known on Tuesday while briefing newsmen on activities for the 23rd convocation ceremony of the institution.
Mohammed said the teacher, Malam Muhammadu Mubi, a retired teacher and foundation principal of several schools, has paid his dues to the service of his motherland and would be conferred with Doctor of Letters (honoris causa).
“He mentored several generations of students most of whom have reached the peak of their career. We are honouring him for his selfless service, unparalleled integrity, discipline and service to state and society. He is an exemplary case of positive non-political leadership,” said the vice chancellor.
Mohammed added that former Military Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar, and a labour activist, Mr Hassan Sunmonu, would also be honoured.
He explained that while Abubakar would to be honoured for his peace activities and for successfully supervising military disengagement from politics and governance, Sunmonu, the former Secretary General of the Organisation of African Trade Union, would be honoured for his principled and dedicated leadership of labour movement.
The vice chancellor commended President Muhammadu Buhari for approving the North East Development Commission, and urged the commission to give priority attention to education at all levels.
The university will be graduating 5,156 candidates, comprising 39 first class; 802 upper second class; 1,575 lower second class; 768 third class, and 95 pass degrees.
