Mifi communities in Takad Chiefdom of Kaura Local Government in Kaduna State have cried out for lack of social amenities and therefore solicited urgent assistance from government.
Spokesman of the communities, Mr. Audu John, told reporters that the lack of these amenities had crippled social, academic and economic activities in the area.
Mr. Audu John, while narrating their experiences, said they had erected pillars for construction of a bridge that had over time posed a challenge to the community, especially traders and farmers, adding that the initiative did not receive a boost from government.
He said though the communities had purchased beams from a company at Ashaka, Bauchi State, it was constrained financially as a crane has to be hired to convey them to the villages.
The spokesman also lamented the lack of portable water supply as over 7,000) members of the community depend on only one bore hole and are forced to share stream and pond water with animals whenever the borehole breaks down.
Audu added that the community lacked a primary health care centre to cater for their health needs, and residents travel long distances to Kaura, Kafanchan and even Jos in Plateau State to access medical treatment, which has given rise to high mortality rate, especially among children and women.
He urged government to as a matter of urgency come to the aid of the communities by addressing their needs, including skills acquisition centre and standard primary school for women and youth empowerment.
